Early Life[]
Lauren is the daughter of Joseph Durango, a NASCAR engineer and Penny Durango, a former NASCAR crew chief in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and current car-chief in the Sprint Cup Series. Lauren got her love of racing from her parents.
NASCAR Career[]
Lauren made her NASCAR debut at the 1998 Daytona 500 where she'd finished fifth in the event. The events that followed after the Daytona 500, her highest finished was a fourth at the spring Texas race. The rest of the races, she'd either finished in the Top 20, or had a DNF for being involved in a wreck.
In 2003, Lauren had gotten into a verbal rivarly with Craftsman (now known as the Camping World) Truck Series driver Summer Keselowski as Lauren was questioning Summer's place in NASCAR and saying that the only way that she in back in 2001 was because of her family. The verbal rivarly between Lauren and Summer had lasted the whole 2003 Truck Series season.
In 2005, marking her seventh year in the Cup Series at Daytona, she was let go from her race team after the race (where Lauren finished ninth) because of the lack of sponsorship. At the sprint Talladega race, Lauren was picked up by Thomas Audette, who was the owner of 'Audette Racing'. Lauren was considered a 'go-or-go-home' driver because of her car not being in the Top 35 in owner points as it was in the 37 position. Luaren ended up making all of the races of the 2005 season, with her best finish being a 6th at the Coca-Cola 600 and she finished third in the Cup Championship points, her highest place in the points in her career.
Lauren still drives for Audette racing, but from 2006 to the 2011 season, she was driving a limited schedule. Lauren hopes to drive the full 2012 Cup Series schedule. After failing to qualify for the first three races of the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Lauren was let go by Audette Racing.
